RUN FOR CENTRAL COMMITTEE
Cynara Kidwell will guide us through "How to Run for Central Committee" to encourage club members to run for central committee in order to provide greater representation to your community in the Democratic Party. This topic is especially timely because the nominating period, where potential candidates can start collecting signatures, begins on November 13. The nomination period by which signatures need to be submitted in order for a potential candidate to become a candidate ends on December 8, 2023.
Cynara is a longtime community organizer with the San Diego County Democratic Party. She became active in 2004 to end the Iraq war and traveled to Arizona to do Spanish language outreach for John Kerry. She joined our party's newly formed Grassroots Organizing Team (GO-Team) in 2005 and served in leadership GO-Team roles for many years. She served as an Assembly Delegate to the California Democratic Party in 2015 and 2017. She is the president of the Blue Dream Democratic Club (a Democratic Club for Drug Policy Reform) and a founding board member of La Voz Democrata (a Spanish Language Democratic Club). She is passionate about combatting climate change, eliminating poverty and social inequality, immigration/trade reform and campaign finance reform. She is committed to championing little "d" democracy by activating, organizing, empowering and amplifying the voices of local grassroots organizers in the many diverse communities of San Diego County. HELP ASYLUM SEEKERS ARRIVING IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY As most of us have learned, there has been a huge influx of refugees in San Diego County. Please help if you are able! Hundreds of migrants who had been waiting between the two border fences to enter the United States have been processed by federal authorities and, subsequently, many of them have been dropped off by Border Patrol agents at transit centers throughout San County Diego. The massive arrivals overwhelmed nonprofit organizations scrambling to provide migrants with basic resources such as food and clothing, as well as shelter in hotel rooms and with host families. Here are ways to help these refugees in their journey:
